The idea of distance learning saw light first in 1728. It was only in the mid 1800’s when the Postal Department became good enough that colleges and universities offered students an opportunity to from a distance. Course material was mailed and the student was required to study on his or her own. Exams were held, first in the institution and colleges and then in different cities. Distance education, for all its merits, never caught on because of lack of certainty that the student did indeed study.
