Online MBA Class – How It Works

In an Online MBA class, the brick and mortar classroom is replaced by a virtual class. Let’s see how it works:

The mechanics of a typical Online MBA program is based on the internet to fulfill the following functions:

  • Communication – most of the communication is done on courses and general website. Direct communication between individuals is typically doe with email and by phone if necessary.
  • Instructions and Assignments – assignments are assigned on course website and delivered in the same way.
  • Library, Books & Articles – library materials are typically available via online database subscriptions that are included in the tuition fee. This applies mainly for academic and professional periodicals. Books may be also available online but in some cases students just purchase them.
  • Lectures – whether live or recorded, lectures are provided online with audio, video, slides. Session may be accompanied with downloadable files for background and typically available for replay for the semester or so.
  • Moderated Discussions – moderated discussions may be a part of the course or voluntary. In both cases they are held on course or school forums.
  • Questions and Answers may be submitted via forums or by email, depending on the situation.
  • History and Records – Grades, feedback and other individual transaction and information is loaded and maintained in a central repository.
  • All data is kept available for long term.
  • The class is available 24×7x365. This is real freedom.

CAMPUS ATTENDANCE

Some, mainly international online MBA programs, will let you stay remote throughout the program and won;t ask for campus attendance.

However, others, mainly national programs, will require or let campus attendance in which they will offer special courses or workshops. These requirement, whether optional or mandatory, should be viewed as an advantage and an added value, depending on the situation of course.
